Creating a Template

To create a new template, first select the template folder in which you want to store the new template. Next, click the Create Template sub-tab.

First on this form the path in which the template will be created is shown. Next you must select the type of template you wish to create. This type will depend upon how you want to use the template. For instance, to create a template you can use when creating new Page Manager pages you would select Page Manager: Page Body.

Once you select a template type a list of pre-built templates will be loaded from which you can base your template. This is used to save you time creating your template. If you select a template then click the Load button, the main editing area will be populated with the template.

When you load a pre-built template, the template name field will also be filled-in if you haven't already entered its name. This name is used to identify the template throughout Recite.

Tip

A common convention is to end template names with .tpl so you can easily recognise the name as a template name. For example, you might enter page.tpl as the name of a template used to output a page.

When you save your template, Recite will check to ensure the template name isn't already in use in the selected template folder. If it is, you will be prompted to enter a new template name.

Next, you can enter a description for the template. This is used so you can make any internal notes on the template that may be important.

Finally you can write your template or make changes to a loaded pre-built template. You can always re-load a pre-built template if you need to.

Click the Save Template button to save your template. Recite will then check to make sure there are no mistakes in your template.
